Deci Dela (1994)

Deci Dela by Nina Ricci: launched in 1994. Created by Evelyne Boulanger and Jean Guichard.

In 1992, Parfums Nina Ricci S.A. began developing a new fragrance to be marketed worldwide under the name "Deci Dela." The name was chosen from the French opera "Veronique" by high-level executives of Parfums Nina Ricci A.S. The name takes off on the old French saying "Now here, now there."

A fruity floral and chypre blend. The playful top note blends peach, raspberry, apricot=scented osmanthus, melon and boronia flowers. The flirtatious middle note tickles the senses with centifolia may rose, sunny freesia and aromatic hazelnut. The luscious base note is the oriental accord of chypre, Provence cypress, cedar, oakmoss and patchouli.

Fragrance Composition:

So what does it smell like? It is classified as a crisp, fruity mossy chypre fragrance for women. Deci dela is called a harmony of three interwoven lines f scents - one fruity (youthful), floral (warm, developed) and woody (softness.) The eau de toilette is lighter and fruitier while the parfum is the warmest, most complex.

Succulent fruits in combination with floral accents make this fragrance a show-stopper.

Artful packaging contains a mixture of sensual delights with the unexpected punch of raspberry, cherry, peach, freesia and rose.  Not for the faint of heart. In eau de toilette, concentrated eau de toilette and extract.
  • Top notes: orange, nectarine, cherry, apricot, mandarin, watermelon, pawpaw, raspberry, Chinese osmanthus, peach, Australian boronia and red currant
  • Middle notes: hazelnut, headspace sweet pea, carnation, Javanese papaya, orris, freesia, jasmine, sweet pea rose and cabbage rose
  • Base notes: Sumatran balsam, cedar, cypress, amber, benzoin, styrax, Cambodian agar wood, oakmoss, sandalwood, patchouli, resins and vanilla

Vanity Fair, 1995:
"Original. Audacious. An exotic, fruity, floral and chypre blend that is impossible to resist in brightly coloured flacons as luscious as the fragrance within."

Bottle:

Presented in a rounded deep pink bottle with gold swirls and gold round stopper, designed by the Mattia Bonetti for artists Bonetti and Garouste (BG), it captures Nina Ricci's characteristic playful and romantic style. The bottle design has a natural, pleasing shapeliness glowing with rich colors of raspberry, cherry and mandarin orange. The glass is frosted to give it the feel of a peach skin and enlivened with dancing lines of gold. The matte gold stoppers are shaped like fattened hearts set on a diagonal slant.

Deci Dela's bath line takes its colors directly from the sea, in matte shades of blue and green reminiscent of the 1950s. The whimsical soap dish recalls the flying saucers of the era and rests on little gold balls. The stoppers on both the shower gel and body lotion are plump golden waves.

Bigarade (1971)

Bigarade by Nina Ricci: launched in 1971. Created by Francis Fabron of Roure. Bigarade is a Bigarade-type aldehyde perfume, characterized by fresh, tonic, and subtly floral notes. Its composition features bitter orange, mandarin, neroli, clary sage, and opoponax, giving it a lively, vibrant citrus personality.

The fragrance highlights the bright and zesty nuances of bitter orange, from which it takes its name, and it seduces with a persistent, natural charm. Designed for a woman who is fresh, attractive, light, and free of heavy artifices, Bigarade is an ideal daytime fragrance, evoking a cheerful, energetic, sporty, and springlike atmosphere.

The French name refers to the bitter Seville oranges and the fragrance is built upon this theme. A light and airy fragrance that was suggested to be worn from 9 to 5 either at the office, casually hanging out with friends or playing sports.

The Amarillo Globe-Times, 1972:
"You were ripe for an orange fragrance. Bigarade has it's own twist! Nina Ricci's new Bigarade means bitter orange. As tangy with herbs and spices as a candle shop; vibrant as a blossom. A wake-up, sunny-day fragrance that's definitely citrus. But no lemon or lime citrus. Too new for that. Too Nina Ricci for that. Almost too fresh to be bottled. That's Bigarade. To splash, spray, pat or stroke on in the morning . . . to color happily your whole day. The Bigarade collection, including Eau de Toilette, bath and body care $2.50 to $12.00."

Each piece was designed to reflect the youthful, whimsical, and feminine character of Capricci, a fragrance known for its playful yet sophisticated charm.

At the top of the line were the Lalique crystal bottles, offered in two sizes. These sculptural bottles transformed perfume into a collectible piece of art, their clarity and precision emphasizing both the luxury of the fragrance and the craftsmanship of Lalique glass. In addition, the parfum was available in presentation bottles in four sizes, offering a more traditional display while maintaining elegance, and a purse spray for portability and discreet use on the go, ideal for modern, active lifestyles.

The Eau de Toilette line extended Capricci into daily wear with versatility and convenience. Available as splashes in four sizes, the fragrance could be applied generously or with more restraint. Through the combination of Lalique crystal artistry, versatile sprays, and indulgent body-care offerings, Capricci was presented as a fragrance that was playful yet sophisticated, luxurious yet practical—a complete sensory experience designed to charm and delight.

    Fate of the Fragrance:

Despite the high quality of the Nina Ricci perfumes, four fragrances were unsuccessful in the American market (Coeur Joie, Capricci, Farouche and Fleurs de Fleurs), yet, they are successful in Europe. Why? Because most American women prefer stronger fragrances rather than the light, flowery scents enjoyed by European women. Furthermore, European women believe femininity is enhanced by a perfume, and they place more importance on the decorative crystal bottles and packaging than American women do. “ The French image of perfume is very romantic, feminine and sophisticated,” says Lina Vitali, vice president of Parfums Nina Ricci, USA in 1989. “The American perfume’s image is more aggressive, sexual and overpowering.”
